Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Born in Chauvin, Alberta, Wayne moved with his family to Banff in 1947, and later they relocated to Exshaw, where he would make his home and raise his family. Wayne and his beloved wife, Janet, were married on May 20, 1961, and shared 65 wonderful years together. Their life together was filled with family, friendship, hard work, and countless memories.

Wayne dedicated 34 years to working for Bow Valley Provincial Parks and Kananaskis Country, where he served as a Maintenance Supervisor. After retiring in 1995, Wayne and Janet enjoyed life on their acreage in Seebe, where they lived for the past 30 years.

Wayne had a deep love for nature and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, golfing, and watching all kinds of sports. Photography was another passion, and he loved capturing the beauty of animals and birds through his camera.

Horse racing held a special place in Wayne's heart. He enjoyed betting on the races at Century Downs and was proud to own harness horses with a group of partners. These experiences brought him great enjoyment throughout his life.

Above all, Wayne cherished his family and friends. He treasured time spent visiting with relatives, sharing stories, and enjoying the company of those he loved. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his many interests, his hardworking nature, and most of all, for the love and memories he gave to those around him.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet; his daughters, Sandy (Bob Goosen) Hass, Laurie (Mike-predeceased) Hass-Yearwood, and Adrienne Podmoroff; his grandchildren, Levi (Kasey) Kohle, Tyrell (Lindsey) Kohle, Owen (Teah) Goosen, Jade (Dustin) Walters, Paisley Podmoroff, and Lien (Aimee) Podmoroff; and his great-grandchildren, Rosey Kohle and Vincent Podmoroff; his brother Gary (Cathy) Hass. He will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered with love by all who were part of his family circle and who shared in his life over the years.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Frieda and Edward Hass; by his sister, Fern (George) Olglestone; and by his brothers, Ronnie Hass, and Glen Hass. He was also predeceased by Mike, Laurie’s husband.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the homecare staff, Dr. Christa McPherson, Save-On-Foods Pharmacy, Exshaw Fire Department, Nakoda Nation Ambulance Services, and all those who provided loving care, kindness, and support to Wayne and his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MS Canada, Canmore Hospital, STARS Air Ambulance, the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

Wayne will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Wayne at Boundary Ranch in mid-October 2026. A specific date will be announced on Facebook.
