Theresa Zakli (nee: Terezia Szilvassy)

Theresa Zakli (nee: Terezia Szilvassy) was born June 23, 1937 and passed away on July 26, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, on June 7, 2025.

We remember Theresa Zakli as a formidable Hungarian woman whose journey through life was marked by resilience. After immigrating to Canada, she and her husband built a beautiful life in Lethbridge and later Canmore, Alberta. Theresa was a beautician for many years and owned many successful businesses.

Her love for nature and wild animals was her true passion however. She had beautiful flower gardens surrounding her creekside home. It was a haven for birds, where pigeons roosted as pets, inside and out and recovering blue jays, robins or any kind of fowl were nursed back to health.

Theresa was stubborn, tough, and fiercely independent, living at home in Canmore until just a few years before her passing. She would thank all the staff of St. Martha’s long term care for the considerate care she received throughout her stay. Her companions and caregivers gave her the most important gift to make her feel special, an ear to listen to her many stories from days of old.

Theresa will be put to rest beside her husband Michael on Tuesday, August 12, at 10:00 am in the Canmore Cemetery.
