Miles Matthews

Miles Matthews passed away on October 20, 2025. He was born in Calgary to Kathleen and William (Curly) Matthews. He lived his whole life in Calgary.

He is survived by his two brothers Ron (Evelyn) of Canmore and Bruce (Marcia) of Comox, his two nieces Claire (Monte) of Comox and their children Tate and Olive, and Sarah (Craig) of Sydney, Australia, and her children Siearna and Eisha.

Miles had challenges throughout the years but met them head on and lived a full life.

He loved the outdoors, and he and his bicycle explored the many trails in Calgary, as well as Canmore and Banff. He liked to hike in the mountains, and on his last visit to Canmore in August, he enjoyed the views at the top of the Standish chairlift at Sunshine Village on a perfect blue-sky day.

He also loved to travel which included trips to Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, San Francisco, New York City and Hawaii. In retirement, his trips were more modest and included many day or multi-day trips in Alberta and BC. His last trip to BC in July was exactly as he wished – flying to Comox, a visit with his brother and niece and her family, float plane to Vancouver, train to Jasper, and bus to Calgary via the Icefields Parkway.

Miles was fiercely independent and lived life on his own terms. And he still had big dreams.

His extended family will miss him and his frequent phone calls, and will always have fond memories of him.
