On May 8, 2026 Marilyn Mattson passed away peacefully and surrounded with love, after a brief illness with aggressive ALS. Marilyn chose to die with dignity, electing for Medical Assistance in Dying, with her family by her side.

Marilyn lived in the Bow Valley for almost 50 years, the majority of those years in Canmore, with her late husband Russell Mattson and their children. She moved to Kimberley, BC in 2025 to spend more time with her children, Larry Mattson (Lindsay) and Susie Addison (Tim) and her grandchildren, Evelyn and Jasper Addison. Marilyn loved living in the Bow Valley and enjoyed close friendships and a strong community there. She was excited for a new adventure in Kimberley and quickly made new friends and explored new trails. Marilyn will be deeply missed by her family and friends on both sides of the Rockies.

Marilyn and her family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Buddo and Dr. Matheny for their care and support.

A private celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at a later date. It was Marilyn's wish that friends and family enjoy a walk along a peaceful trail to remember and celebrate her life.
