Lois Elaine Gerwing

July 27, 1932 — January 6, 2026

Canmore, AB

Lois passed away peacefully with the love of her family on January 6 after a short battle with cancer. Lois was predeceased by her brother Keith Peberdy and her sister Ruth Cooney.

Lois was born to William (Art) and Babe Peberdy on July 27 1932. She grew up with her siblings in a house her father built on Elliot street. Lois was a competitive swimmer in her youth.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband, Herb Gerwing (96). Lois and Herb met at an outdoor swimming pool and were married in Saskatoon in 1953, where they were both raised and began their life together. They made Saskatoon their home until 1967, when they moved to Calgary. There, they founded Gerwing Masonry, building both a successful business and a strong family life.

Lois and Herb raised their family with love and dedication. She is lovingly remembered by her son, David (Marilyn) Gerwing, and her grandson, Evan all of Calgary; and by her daughter, Joanne (Rick) Pasemko, and her granddaughters, Alexandra (Allen) and Madison (Wiley) all of Canmore.

Lois and Herb shared a love of travel and especially enjoyed car trips south during the winter months to visit family and friends. Lois was known for her quick wit, warm spirit, and the joy she found in spending time with her family.

As Herb’s health needs increased, they moved to Canmore to be closer to family. Lois became a resident of the Bow River Seniors Lodge in February 2024, where she enjoyed the friendships she made. Herb continues to reside there.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Bow River Seniors Lodge and to Lois’s compassionate care team at Canmore Hospital and Golden Eagle View for their kindness and support.

Lois will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her warmth, and the life she built with Herb over more than seven decades together.

At the request of the family, no service will be held.
