Leonard James Larsen

Leonard James Larsen, born on September 25, 1947, in Canmore, Alberta, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, in Cochrane, Alberta, with family by his side At the age of 77years. He was a beloved figure, known for his warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Leonard graduated from Canmore High School and in 1965 he began his professional journey at the BF Goodrich Company in Calgary, followed by a role at the Canmore Mines. Leonard later contributed his skills at Travelmate in British Columbia and concluded his career at Lafarge in Exshaw from 1974 until his retirement in 2008 finishing his time there as a heavy-duty mechanic and driving an 85-ton quarry truck. His commitment to his profession was evident, and he took great pride in being a loyal member of the Boiler Makers Union Local D331.

An avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Leonard dedicated many Thursday nights to card games with friends, particularly enjoying pitch. He had a deep love for the mountains surrounding his hometown of Canmore, where he created countless cherished memories.

Leonard is survived by his loving family: his son Steven Larsen and daughter-in-law Ashley, and daughter Tammy Heaver. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Ethan and Emmy Heaver. Leonard is also survived by siblings: Cherrie Scott, Doris Larsen, Ross and Bonnie Larsen, Karen and Michael Larsen, and Kevin and Barb Larsen as well as his sister in law Lynda Larsen and brother in law Doyle Bray. Additionally, he is survived by three cousins: Bill King, Bob King, and Donna Carmichael.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Herman Larsen and siblings, including his sisters: Marilyn, Susan, and Bonny, and brothers: Arthur and Bert.

A Memorial service in honor of Leonard's life will be held at St. Michael's Anglican Church located at 709 7 St, Canmore on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Leonard’s passion for life and his contributions to those around him will forever be remembered.
