Leon Dyrgas passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He is deeply missed by his cherished wife of 61 years, Vera; his son Stephen (Teresa); daughter Nadine (Pat); grandson Gabriel; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his parents, nine siblings, and his beloved puppy, Sparky.
Born and raised in Canmore, Alberta, Leon lived his entire life rooted in the community he loved. A true local, he was known for his active spirit and social nature. Whether coaching hockey, teeing off on the golf course, or playing cards at the Legion, Leon's vibrant energy and easy camaraderie made every gathering brighter. Even in quiet moments – when Papa would get down on the floor to play with Gabe – his warmth and playfulness shone through.
A master welder by trade, Leon shaped steel with the same care and precision he brought to every facet of his life. His tireless work ethic was matched only by his kind and compassionate nature. Always ready to lend a hand – or his toolbox – he supported family, friends, and neighbors without hesitation. He had a deep love for animals and nature, took pride in his immaculate lawn, and often reminisced about "the good old days."
A private graveside service was held at the Canmore Cemetery on August 6, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Humane Society, your preferred animal welfare organization, or a charity close to your heart.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many medical professionals, relatives, and friends who offered steadfast support during Leon's final chapter. Your compassion brought comfort in difficult times and will never be forgotten.
Though the coal dust has settled and the welding torch has dimmed, Dad's legacy burns bright – in the lives he touched, the values he embodied, and the love he leaves behind.
See you on the other side, Dad.
