Krystyna Sarna

June 27, 1937 — May 20, 2025

Banff

Kystyna Sarna (nee Urban), devoted wife, mother and babcia, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025. Born in Czortkow she grew up in war torn Poland. As a child, she was separated from her father whose regiment was captured and sent to a Siberian prison camp. The family was reunited, 20 years later, when Krystyna, a young wife and mother, immigrated to Canada with her husband, Walter and daughter Barb.

Krystyna and Walter embraced their new country and became proud Canadians. Passing on their Polish heritage, Catholic faith, strong work ethic and family values were important to Krystyna and Walter.

A former preschool teacher, Krystyna’s love of children and animals endured throughout her life. She excelled at all she endeavoured; whether it be cultivating a showpiece garden, knitting intricate patterns or cooking feasts. She was an avid reader and a world traveler. Her favourite destination was Cuba, where she loved to revisit the locals she had befriended. Visits with family and friends brought Krystyna joy. She will be remembered for her quick wit and selfless care of family.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Barbara, her granddaughter, Lauren (Cam) and great grandchildren, Hunter and Hanna.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Emma Morin and the staff at Golden Eagle View who ensured that Krystyna always had the best of care.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations may be made in Krystyna’s name to Parkinson’s Canada.

A friends and family graveside service will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Banff on Monday, June 2 at 11:00am.
