Kristine Maye Reid

Mother, Nana, Auntie and a friend to many.

It is with sad hearts that our family announces that on April 18, 2026, peacefully with loved ones by her side, Kristine received her angel wings. We are eternally grateful that her friends Pat and Ken Brice, and Vicki Lawlor were steadfast in Kristines’ journey helping her find her way and caring for her until she was able to finally rest.

If you met Kristine, you would never forget her, nor would she forget you. She had a charming way about her that would create an instant connection. She would store away all the details from the conversation with you and would access that mental file when she ran into you later. She never forgot names, or the details that you shared with her; it made people feel seen and loved.

Kristine was talented on so many levels.

First off, for lack of a better descriptor, you could call her a seamstress, and her house became a hub for the stitch and bitch ladies’ group, where the aroma of blueberry tea and the loud unabashed laughter filled the air.

Secondly, she was a savant with her piano which stayed with her from her childhood home whose melodies could be heard floating their way through the air in her neighborhood where she lived.

Her love of music was ingrained in her soul as she came from a family who could sing and play pretty much any instrument. Kristine had a love for concerts and performances and would loudly hoot, holler, clap and sing along unapologetically despite and perhaps to spite those nearby who didn’t share her zest.

She was an avid gardener with a massive edible garden that over produced every year at harvest. Kristine would share her bounty of vegetables with her friends as well as her plants as her yard was lush. You never left in the summertime without her dividing a perennial to send back with you.

As an ER nurse, Kristine was a healer. Her patients loved her, as did her community of friends and family, as Kristine was always available to help, advocate and care for those around her that were in need. And when it was Kristine’s turn to be in need, her community gave back in kind to her.

Kristine was born in Banff, Alberta on December 11, 1949. She loved the mountains that were her home and her horses that she rode all throughout the area. More than anything, I know that Kristine missed having horses as she could ride before she could walk. It was because her son had such a severe allergy to them that she had to part with them. I’m sure that Kristine has found her childhood steeds and, as we speak, is tearing up the trails of her childhood home. It is therefore fitting that she will be laid to rest in Banff proper itself, to now become part of the place that held such a dear place in her heart and soul.

Kristine is predeceased by her sisters Barbara and Louise and her father Kenneth. Survived by: her mother Thora and her brother Colin. Michael (son) and his kids, Brynn, Ethan, and Lexi. Danielle (Daughter) Derek (son-in-law) and their daughters Kaylee and Kira. Pat and Ken Brice, and Vicki Lawlor (Dear friends of Kristine)

Kristine’s vibrant presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
