Arnold Joachim Schulz of Canmore, Alberta passed away Sunday, October 5th, 2025 at the Canmore General Hospital. He was surrounded at the time of his passing by his loving family and his beloved Rocky Mountains, he never tired of the view.
Arnold was born in Calais, Alberta as his parents Maria and Joachim Schulz made their way to Alberta‘s Peace River Country. He was raised on a farm in the community of Westmark and farmed there and then later in Blueberry Mountain, Alberta. He enjoyed grain farming but his first love was hauling logs on snow-covered winter roads. Arnold was an avid curler, golfer, bridge player and traveller. He represented the Peace Curling Association numerous times at provincial play-offs and won many bonspiels. He loved the game and would re-play every shot afterwards.
Upon retiring to Canmore, he and his wife Louise travelled extensively and enjoyed their mountain home. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed the holidays and related preparation. He had an aptitude for building and fixing things and was an early and avid adopter of new technology. At 90 years old he was a sender of funny texts and emails. He was a perfectionist whose favourite saying was “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right”.
Arnold is fondly remembered by Louise, his wife of 65 years; daughters Sandy (Doug) Adair of Calgary, Alberta and Char (Tom) Hand of Franklin, Tennessee; sister Helen Peebles of Grande Prairie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Joachim and Maria Stinka Schulz and by his sisters Clara Mary Ewasiuk (1984) and Hildegard Martha Schulz (2010).
Arnold‘s life will be remembered at a gathering of family and friends, to be held at a later date.
