Amelia (Myn) Vera Hursin

It’s with heavy hearts that Amelia’s family shares the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Amelia lived a rich, full life that began in Edmonton Alberta. Inspired by her strong willed, passionate and loving mother Julia, Amelia embraced life. Her curiosity about so many things in her, her children’s and friend’s lives never wained; inspiring family and friends alike.

Amelia and her husband John retired to Baptiste Lake Alberta where she turned her passion for gardening into a remarkable journey. Always experimenting and seeking knowledge, her gardens were an inspiration. “My Garden is about process-My landscape changes- I change - I try to achieve simple beauty”.

Amelia lived at Baptiste Lake for 30 years; a place of cherished family memories. Amelia was an avid volunteer in the community and a respected councilor for West Baptiste Lake Summer Village. She had the uncanny ability to connect with people.

For the past 8 years Amelia resided at Origin in Canmore. Her acceptance of the changes in her life and her continued desire to make the most out of her life was remarkable. Her passion for gardening, her energy and ability to engage people benefited so many in her new community.

Opinionated, stubborn, compassionate, supportive, thoughtful, curious; Amelia was truly her own person. She touched so many people in a positive way.

Thank you to Origin for making Amelia’s last years a wonderful experience in a very caring community. May her joyful spirit continue to shine bright in your gardens.

Amelia leaves behind her children David (Jean), Tamara (Scott), Loretta Jane (Ken) Howard (Anne), grandchildren Déjan (Clarice), Frances (Hayden), Kayla (Mikkel), great grandchildren Oliana and Gabriel, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

A celebration of Amelia’s life will be held in the summer of 2026.
